Thurrock Council has approved plans to expand the Dock Road house of multiple occupation (HMO) from six bedrooms to seven, allowing another resident to move in.
Planning agents Dimensions Ltd submitted plans in July for a rear extension and loft conversion.
Thurrock Council approved the application on Monday, September 7.
Prior to the decision, four nearby residents objected to plans raising concerns about noise, privacy and parking.
One neighbour said: "Parking is already at capacity on Dock Road and the surrounding streets, with residents regularly struggling to find available spaces.
"The proposal will increase the potential number of occupants and is therefore likely to increase the demand for on-street parking.
"As someone living immediately next door, I already experience the increased activity associated with a large HMO, including more people coming and going throughout the day and evening.
"Increasing the occupancy further is likely to increase noise and disturbance, reducing the enjoyment of my home."
Another neighbour said: "Many of us struggle to get parking for our cars that we pay for permits for. This is only going to increase the burden."

Despite the parking concerns, the developers said in their Design and Access Statement that demanding more off-street spaces would be unreasonable.
They said: "It would be unreasonable to require the provision of two off-street parking spaces as a consequence of adding one additional occupant to an existing HMO use, particularly where the site has no frontage capable of accommodating off-street parking."
Addressing residents’ concerns about parking and noise, Dimensions Ltd said: "No residents have any cars and no complaints about noise or disturbance have been lodged to our management department."
