A Colchester group which started a new app to track, discover and celebrate great beers is now being used by thousands of people across the globe.
Friends Eetu Jouhki, Elliot Honeybun-Arnolda, Joe Shilan, Jack Morgan, Tom Barnett, Elliot Harper, Scott Hill, Tom Gadd, Raul Sherman and Lewis Walne launched PintMaxxing in June.
It’s intended as a social platform where users can log how many pints they have drunk, interact with friends, and look at dedicated insights such as kilocalorie count, and the country of beers they are a fan of.
Since launching there are 5,500 active users across more than 30 countries.
As well as the UK, there are users in the United States, Ireland, Czechia, Australia, New Zealand, Belgium, and Denmark.

More than 50,000 pints have been logged with details of the beer type, price and venue.
Eetu, 32, spent three weeks working on the app after the group of friends came up with the idea to record their pint consumption online.
He said: “I honestly did not expect more than a couple hundred users, but it was instantly a success with thousands of users signing up and logging pints from day one.

“We’ve had lots of messages about people loving the app and giving further suggestions and improvements.
“There was an important discussion initially between us when we made the app, not to support binge drinking and an unhealthy lifestyle.
“That is why we added a way to log your workouts alongside pints too.
“The app is less about numbers and more about discovering and rating beers.
“It is a genuinely useful tool to discover your next favourite pint and brewer.”

Prior to the launch of the app, the group had started PintMaxxing social media accounts.
Within its first 90 days, the social channels gained more than 3.5 million views on Instagram and TikTok.
Social media star Big John has also followed the page on Instagram, which currently has 9,955 followers.
Elliot, 32, who created and runs the social media accounts, said: “We get loads of messages about how people love the idea, our content and the friendly banter between mates, so I think people relate to us in many ways when they compare it with their own friend groups.
“The PintMaxxing app then allows you to join in and make your own groups, so a lot of viewers do exactly that.

“It genuinely feels like we're supporting the growth of positivity around pub culture, almost like a movement that ties into bigger things, like mental health. That's something we love being part of.”
PintMaxxing is expected to launch on official app stores within the next two months.
