Road closures are set to take effect for several weeks during major gas works.
The works, which will get underway this summer in Elmstead Market, will involve upgrading 320 metres of gas mains along Church Road, from Holly Way to Colchester Road/Clacton Road.
The project is part of Cadent’s wider programme to replace ageing gas pipes from the 1930s with newer plastic pipes.
Eleanor Buxton, head of work management at Cadent, said: "The gas pipes in this part of Elmstead have been working hard for nearly 100 years, but it’s now time to replace them so we can continue to deliver gas safely and reliably to homes and businesses.
"We know roadworks can be frustrating and we are sorry for any inconvenience caused.
"We will do all we can to keep disruption to a minimum and complete the work as safely and efficiently as possible.
"This investment will help make sure the local gas network remains safe, reliable and ready to support the community for decades to come."
Work is scheduled to begin on August 17 and is expected to last six weeks, with a road closure in place for the duration.
Signed diversions and advance warning signs will be put up to guide drivers and reduce disruption.

The improvements form part of Cadent’s continued investment in upgrading gas networks across the East of England.
Gas supplies are expected to remain connected for most properties during the works.
However, Cadent said some properties that take a direct feed from the affected pipes may experience a temporary disconnection.
These homes and businesses will be given advance notice.
Cadent said every effort will be made to keep disruption to a minimum and complete the project as safely and efficiently as possible.
The new plastic pipes will help ensure a reliable gas supply for future generations.
Residents have also been reminded to contact the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999 if they smell gas at any time.
Cadent said any report of a gas smell should be treated seriously and checked, even if believed to be related to the ongoing work.
Elmstead Market is one of several areas in the region benefiting from Cadent’s work to modernise gas infrastructure.
The upgrade ensures the community remains connected to safe and dependable gas for decades to come.
