A MAN has died after emergency services attended an incident near Frinton seafront.
Essex Police was contacted by the East of England Ambulance service shortly before 2.10pm today, after a man had got into difficultly in the sea off the Esplanade.
An air ambulance landed close to Esplanade and several ambulances were seen in the area.
There were hundreds of people on the greensward, and hundreds more on the beaches below as the incident unfolded.
A number of police vehicles and the HM Coastguard were all on scene as well.
The man was brought ashore but despite the efforts of emergency services, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
In a statement Essex Police said: "His family have been informed and are being supported by our officers.
"Our thoughts are with them at this difficult time.
"Emergency service personnel remain at the scene and our response is continuing."
Mike Swansea, who was on the promenade when it happened said: “Everybody is in shock, it was awful to see.
“The ambulance and police forces were rushing up the promenade.
“By their faces they were horrified, with tears in their eyes.
“They were here for about two hours. With a helicopter too.”
The tragedy is the third on the Sunshine Coast this summer.
The emergency services were called to Walton beach on July 9 after a man got into difficulty in the sea.
An Essex and Herts Air Ambulance landed near to Prince's Esplanade, but the victim was confirmed dead at the scene.
Another man, aged 69, died after getting into difficulty in the sea off Clacton on June 26 at about 11am.
It also comes a week after a mother and daughter from London died after a family got into difficulty in the water off West Mersea beach on July 22.
The emergency services had been called at about 5.35pm to reports that several people were in trouble in the sea near Seaview Avenue, close to the Sea View Holiday Park.
The incident claimed the lives of 41-year-old Shelina Rahman and her 15-year-old daughter Sameeha, both from Ilford, London.
A seven-year-old boy named Musa Ahmed had been in critical condition following the incident and sadly died as well.
Frinton Town Councillor Terry Allen, reacting to the latest incident, he said: “First thing I’d say, my deepest condolences and sympathy to family and friends of the deceased person. I am so shocked.

“I knew there was something serious, it is just shocking.
“It is very early for me to really comment on this, all I would say is the deepest sympathy, and we will have to see what the situation was.
“And if I anything can be done to prevent these deaths on our beaches, as I say it is unusual.
“I would say we can’t speculate on what has happened, we need to have some sort of investigation.
“I am sure the right people will be looking into this, and we will hear more about what can be done from emergency services to prevent these incidents happening again.”
