STALLHOLDERS at this coastal Essex market sell locally sourced items they claim are "better quality and value than the supermarket".
Dozens of traders have being gathering at Walton Market ever since it started in 1972.
The market continues to draw shoppers to the Millennium Square on Thursdays all year round.
It was threatened with closure two years ago but was saved by campaigning residents.
Market manager Jake Race said the market is a fantastic asset to Walton and the entire Tendring district.
Mr Race said: "We bring in traders from all over Tendring district and all of the stalls are independent, family-owned or formed in the district.
"It's such great value too. A lot of people say supermarkets are cheaper, but you are not getting the same amazing, fresh and great value items found here at the market.
"If you think about the price per kilo, the quality and the freshness, our market stock is much better than items sold in supermarkets.
"The fish is incredible, so fresh, and most of the fruit and veg is grown just down the road from here and it's absolutely delicious.
"We have a tarot reader and hand-crafted items. Our market is so unique - we just need more support."
