A STUNNING mural celebrating Marilyn Monroe's birthday has been created in Harwich.
Graffiti artist Scott King, also known as Aroma 3, has been brightening up Harwich and Manningtree with his colourful murals.
Over the weekend he was hard at work, creating a mural of a famous Hollywood actress, who would have been a centenarian on Monday.
To celebrate, Mr King decided to paint a mural of Marilyn Monroe, in the town.
Scott said: "It would have been Marylin Monroe's 100th birthday on June 1 and I wanted to celebrate it.
"I thought a new mural would look good because the other Marylin I had painted five years ago was looking a little tired."
It is said that John Alden, a barrel-maker who was the first person to step ashore in America from the Mayflower, which was registered in Harwich, was an ancestor of Monroe.
Genealogists and historians have confirmed that Monroe - who was born in 1926 and died in 1962 - is one of the descendants of John Alden, along with Dick Van Dyke and Orson Welles.
Celebrated for her charismatic screen presence, Monroe starred in classics like Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (1953) and Some Like It Hot (1959) before her tragic death.
She died from an overdose of sleeping pills at her Los Angeles home, at the age of 36.
