CLACTON residents who have been campaigning to get their road resurfaced for nine years hope there is light at the end of the tunnel.
Residents in Lymington Avenue, have been complaining about potholes and bad road conditions for years, first taking the issue to Essex County Council in 2019.
Over the years work has been carried out to fix some potholes in the street, but the patches have not held out for long.
But now, new signs and leaflets have sparked hope in residents.
Mark Hennessey, who has been campaigning for the road to be resurfaced for almost a decade, said he will only celebrate when the works have been completed.
He said: "When the works are done I will be over the moon. It has been a very long time and a very long campaign.
"I want to see the road fully resurfaced before I jump for joy.
"We have had a leaflet before saying full resurfacing works will start but it turned out to just be patchwork repairs.
"It's looking promising after nine and a half years which does make me happy.
"I am shattered and I can't keep campaigning anymore."
Signs have been installed in the road warning motorists that resurfacing works will be taking place from June 12.
A spokesperson for Essex Highways said: “Previous works on Lymington Avenue, Clacton, have involved micro surfacing.
"This allows areas to be treated quickly and efficiently and extends the lifespan of the road.
"With 5,000 miles of road to look after across the county, we must carefully prioritise full-scale resurfacing where there is a risk to safety.
"We therefore thank local residents for their patience and are pleased to confirm resurfacing will now take place on Lymington Avenue, Clacton, from June 15-17.
