THE community came together to mark the anniversary of VE Day at Clacton War Memorial.
The ceremony marked the 81st anniversary of Victory in Europe (VE) Day, which commemorates the end of the Second World War in Europe.
Reverend David Lower led the ceremony, with a reading delivered by councillor Bill Davidson, chairman of Tendring Council.
Councillor Davidson said: "Coming together on VE Day is a powerful reminder of the moment when peace returned to Europe after years of devastating conflict.
"Standing here as a community is an important way of honouring those who served and ensuring their sacrifices are not forgotten.

"I was especially pleased to see residents of all ages attending, helping to pass on the stories and lessons of that generation, which remain just as relevant today."
The event was organised by the Clacton branch of the Royal British Legion in partnership with Tendring Council.
VE Day marks the formal acceptance in 1945 of Nazi Germany’s surrender, signalling the end of nearly six years of conflict in Europe during the Second World War.
