CLACTON Pier is gearing up for a busy bank holiday weekend with a free fireworks extravaganza.

The three-day break follows a strong Easter period, with hopes high for another busy spell over the early May bank holiday from Saturday, May 2 to Monday, May 4.

Visitors can look forward to a packed programme of free family entertainment throughout the long weekend, including a fireworks display and live music.

Harry Peek, general manager of Clacton Pier, said: "We were pleased with the way Easter went and now we are anticipating a bumper weekend ahead.

"It looks like we will get temperatures in the mid to high teens and with no rain on the horizon it should help bring the visitors into the town looking for some family fun.

"We will have our various indoor and outdoor attractions operational and with the free fireworks on Sunday, May 3, as well as free live music during the weekend.

"It's fingers crossed for a really buzzing time."

The fireworks display will begin once it gets dark (around 9pm to 9.30pm), and will be launched from the berthing arm at the end of the pier.

A dedicated spectator area has been marked out to give visitors the closest and best view of the action.

This will be the second of nine fireworks displays planned in Clacton’s 2026 events calendar, which will culminate with two shows on Saturday, November 7.

Dynamic Fireworks, based in Colchester, will once again provide and set off the pyrotechnics.

Free live music will be hosted outside the Boardwalk Bar and Grill on both the Saturday and Sunday.

Words and Music will perform from 1pm to 4pm on Saturday, May 2, followed by Lee Kamara on Sunday, May 3 during the same time slot.
