A CHART-topping British boy band has been announced as a headliner for a massive festival in Colchester.
JLS will headline the Colchester Castle Summer Series in Lower Castle Park on Friday August 28.
Formed in 2006, the group of Aston Merrygold, Marvin Humes, Oritsé Williams and JB Gill, found widespread acclaim after appearing on The X Factor in 2008.
Since then, the group has earned a number one spot in the UK album charts with their self-titled debut album in 2009, and five UK number one singles.
The BRIT Award winners continue to sell-out arena tours, thanks to hits such as Beat Again, Everybody in Love, and She Makes Me Wanna.
A spokesperson for the Colchester Castle Summer Series said: “Renowned for their high-energy live performances and enduring fan connection, JLS continue to be a powerhouse on the UK live music scene.”
Support will come from renowned soul and R&B artist Gabrielle, who enjoyed success in the 1990s and beyond thanks to many hits, including Dreams, Out of Reach, and Rise.
Other headliners include 80s music star Billy Ocean on August 20, Johhny Depp and Alice Cooper’s Hollywood Vampires on August 21, Becky Hill on August 22.
Bastille will headline on August 23, followed by rockstar Richard Ashcroft on August 27, and dance music icon Fatboy Slim on August 29.
Last year’s inaugural event included huge acts such as The Smashing Pumpkins, Busted, Craig David, Tom Jones, Texas, James, and Madness.
Two festivals also happened, UB40 featuring Ali Campbell headlined reggae day festival Roots East, which Mr Campbell spoke to the Gazette about.
Meanwhile, Manchester group James headlined the Out of Time Festival.
Indie rockers White Lies spoke to the Gazette about their time in the city and supporting The Smashing Pumpkins.
The team behind the event, promoters Soundcrash and Supermodified, are well-known in the UK for hosting popular events like the Margate Summer Series, London’s South Facing Festival, Hitchin Priory Series, and Cardiff Bay Series.
Tickets for the JLS headline date go on sale Friday 6 February at 10am via colchestercastlesummerseries.co.uk.
More headline acts and support artists are due to be announced for the Colchester Castle Summer Series in the future.
