A NEW play and art exhibition are being launched in Clacton to explore grief, belonging and mental health.
Misty and Driftsoul, a storytelling evening combining visual art and performance, will take place at Reuby’s Salt Beef and Cheesecake Bar in Clacton at 7pm on Tuesday, January 27.
The play and exhibition is described as a "shared act of remembrance, reflection, and the responsibility of those who remain to carry stories forward".
Monica Rasky, the Clacton-based playwright behind Misty and Driftsoul, said: "I always wondered why some of us leave too soon and others stay longer on this planet.
"Then I realised that we are the storytellers.
"Our mission is to carry their stories forward, to spread love and hope in a world too gloomy for them to bloom, and to continue the work they did not have time to finish."
Set in a mist-filled, dreamlike space, the play uses music and sculpture and silence to evoke the emotional worlds of those who feel unseen.
The launch is accompanied by an art exhibition featuring planetary paintings by Ipswich-based artist Wesley Sprake.
Wesley said: "My paintings aren’t about answers.
"They’re about keeping a sense of wonder and continuity alive.

"Misty and Driftsoul creates space for that, and I’m honoured for the work to be part of it.
"Art doesn’t have to explain loss to honour it. Sometimes it simply keeps light present.
"That’s what this collaboration represents to me."
The event will be hosted by Clacton poet Anna Mae, the founder of Boho Banter poetry nights, who is known for her work creating inclusive, community-centred arts events.
