World premier of movie filmed in Essex to screen next week

Tales of the Underworld is an anthology of crime stories that will eventually be interlinked to create a feature film.

Directed by Darren Cook and produced by Anthony Longhurst, the film will be screened for the first time on January 26.

Mr Longhurst said: "This is the world premier of Tales of the Underworld and is the prequel to our previous film Lucas and Albert.

"That film received the Best Feature Film Award at the National Film Awards over 1917, Sorry We Missed You and Fighting With My Family. 

"These films had far bigger budgets and bigger names than our film, so winning the award was impressive."

Directed by Darren Cook, the movie was filmed in Tendring and involved a lot of local actors, actresses and members of the crew.

Mr Longhurst said: "Lucas, played by myself, and James Osborne, Albert, make an appearance.

"We have used local business for key locations. Steve Ward and David Biscoe (producers on the movie), who are local to East Anglia, came to me with an idea for a movie after I had produced a short film called Lay-By, for local writer Julian White. 

"From there, we linked the stories to what we call the Babysitters Universe and the film idea developed even further.

"We hope Tales of the Underworld, together with the success of Lucas and Albert, will attract the funding to complete the trilogy, which we will also make in the East of England."

The premier will take place at the Century Cinema, in Clacton, on January 26, at 7pm.

There will be an event afterwards at Tom Peppers.

Anthony Longhurst, 62,  is an actor, writer and producer who has lived in Thorpe-le-Soken since 1998.
