THE sister of a Colchester man who died in the 2015 Paris terror attacks says “Colchester did Nick proud” after a huge night of music in the city centre.
The Nick Alexander Music Trust (NAMT) hosted its 10th edition of it’s a Peaceful Noise concert across 10 venues on Saturday.
It remembered Nick Alexander, 35, a former Colchester Royal Grammar School student who grew up in Weeley.
Nick died in the Bataclan theatre terror attack in Paris in 2015.
This inspired Zoe Alexander, his sister, to set up the Nick Alexander Music Trust after his death, it awards grants for musical equipment to small charities and community groups across the UK.
Artists such as Nova Twins, Frank Turner, Radio X DJ John Kennedy, and Bridget performed at venues across the city for the event.
Zoe said: “We had an amazing night at this year’s A Peaceful Noise. Colchester did Nick proud.
“He would have been delighted to have seen the city’s vibrant independent community come together celebrating the power of music to unite people.
“From Nova Twins, Frank Turner and John Kennedy, to Pet Needs, Bridget, False Heads and so many more, Colchester came alive for the Nick Alexander Music Trust.
“A huge thank you to everyone who supported us and brought so much energy to all the shows.”
Three Wise Monkeys, Coda, Queen Street Brewhouse, The Minories, Twisters, Bestdays Vintage, Roots and Grooves Café, Colchester Arts Centre, Stone Rock Records, and The Victoria Inn were the ten venues hosting music.
Proceeds raised from the event will go directly to NAMT and a percentage is also being donated to charities supported by the mayor of Colchester.
Colchester artist Bridget said: “NAMT makes it possible for everyone to do music regardless of their monetary status and background.
“It’s brilliant, it means young people can create and play, and that’s what Nick wanted - more music and expression.
“The show was brilliant, you can really see the difference it makes to the general vibe of the community, punters and performers alike.
“Passion and creativity all around the city, I hope they do it again.”
Colchester mayor Michael Lilley said: “Everything was a huge success, Zoe did a brilliant job in organising so many wonderful bands.
"The whole day was fantastic and it was great \nick will be remembered with such an occasion, he lived and breathed music.
"A fantastic success, hopefully it will continue on in the following years. What a great day for Colchester. So happy for Zoe."
