A CHRISTMAS matinee special event will be held in Colchester featuring a men’s shanty band.
Isle 'ave a Shanty is a six-piece a cappella male harmony group from the Isle of Ely, in Cambridgeshire, singing Shanties with comedy.
The band describes themselves as “a rarity in being a sea shanty band” as they are from a landlocked county.
The group won the virtual 2021 North Northamptonshire Music Festival, which invited acts to send in videos of a performance filmed during or in-between the lockdowns.
Isle 'ave a Shanty also performed at the Harwich Shanty Festival in October.
The ensemble will be singing their final show of 2025 with a Christmas special at Colchester Arts Centre, in Church Street.
The event will take place at 1.30pm on Saturday, December 13 and will include a special appearance from sea shanty singer Hoy Boy who is from Walton.
The live show will include a sing-along as well as actions to join with as the group takes you across journey along the oceans.
The band consists of ‘Able Seaman’ Andrew Newton, Lee ‘Kiss Me Harvey’, ‘Long John’ Tony Calladine, ‘Sea Sick’ Stuart Green, Elliott ‘Sea’ Spray, and ‘Captain’ Kevin King.
