A NEW outdoor classroom has been built at a Clacton school after a successful fundraiser.
Holland Park Primary School, in Holland Road, has boosted its commitment to outdoor learning with the addition of a woodland cabin.
It was made possible due to fundraising by the school’s parent teacher association.
Chairman Conor McIlroy said: “We know how important the forest school is to Holland Park and the benefit it has to pupils.
“We wanted to fundraise and build something that would really support their learning and be enjoyed by all pupils.
“It also shows why a strong PTA, and a community around it, is so important to any school.”
The woodland cabin, which cost about £7,000 to build, is used by every year group and is a mainstay of the forest school.
The area at the back of the school has space for vegetables and planting, outdoor reading, craft activities and a mud kitchen.
Forest school co-ordinatorJoanne Hall said: “Every child in the school takes part in our forest school activities, which are all child-led and help them develop a love for nature and an understanding of the world around them.
“It is so important for the pupils’ wellbeing and the holistic development of every child. It helps with social skills, healthy relationships and enhancing self-esteem and confidence.
“We are so grateful to the PTA and everyone who helped fundraise and support their events, which has led to our amazing woodland cabin.”
The school and PTA also thanked Peverell’s Bathroom and Kitchens and Snow Electrical, who helped with the building work.
