TWO young Clacton theatre volunteers have been recognised with an award.

Lillia Lawton and Rosie Markham, who have spent the past two years volunteering on the technical team at West Cliff Theatre, have received the MAF Award to support their future studies in theatre.

The MAF Award was established in 2011 in memory of former chairman Mike A Freeman and is funded by the biennial Time 2 Shine show.

Keith Harris, technical manager at West Cliff Theatre, said: "Lillia and Rosie have been an integral part of the tech crew and we will miss them enormously.

"Both colleges are prestigious institutes within the theatre industry and we are so very proud they have gained places at their dream colleges.

"We can’t wait to see what the future holds for them."

The award supports young people pursuing theatre careers and has helped past recipients secure jobs in the West End and other parts of the industry.

Lillia will begin a three-year course in performing arts and musical theatre at Laine Theatre Arts College, while Rosie will study stage management at the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts.

The Time 2 Shine show, which raises funds for the award, returns on Sunday, October 26 at 7.30pm and features youth talent from across the district.

Lillia and Rosie were presented with their certificates by comedian Steve Royle, who is headlining this year’s summer show at the West Cliff.
