ICONIC musical Guys and Dolls is heading to Frinton's Greensward tent this week.

Greensward will be transformed into an open-air theatre for the production, which runs until September 6 under the Big Top as part of Frinton Summer Theatre.

The show will be directed by Olivier Award-winning actress Janie Dee who is making her directorial debut.

"I didn’t know I would be arriving in such a haven, with early morning swims in the sparkling sea and the warmest of welcomes from the people of Frinton.

"To bring a big musical like this to life in just two weeks is extraordinary, but the talent and energy of this remarkable company have made every rehearsal a joy.

"I wake each morning excited and grateful for the chance to work with them."

The production promises West End–level spectacle, with an 18-strong professional cast, a live six-piece band, and a 40-voice choir featuring the London Show Choir and The Jupiter Singers.

Clive Brill, artistic director of Frinton Summer Theatre, said: "This is a remarkable opportunity for local audiences to experience West End–standard theatre without travelling to the capital.

"The combination of professional cast, world-class direction, and the magical Big Top setting on Frinton’s Greensward makes this a truly unique cultural event."

The show also shines a spotlight on the area’s creative talent.

Three young cast members come from Frinton’s Stagestruck Academy, and The Jupiter Singers include many performers from the area.

For those involved, performing among seasoned West End professionals is a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Clive said: "It is a tremendous honour for Frinton Summer Theatre to attract such extraordinary talent.

"To have someone of Janie Dee’s calibre making her directing debut here is a testament to the reputation and spirit of this unique theatre."

Efforts have been made to make the show accessible to families, schools and community groups.

Tickets for under-16s are half price, and groups of 10 or more can receive a 10 per cent discount.

Jacey Dias, chair of trustees, said: "This is a rare chance to experience West End–standard theatre right here in Frinton.

"We want to open the doors wide so that as many people as possible can share in the joy of Guys and Dolls."
