Award-winning Mughal Express to open in Brightlingsea

Mughal Express, a curry takeaway owned by four friends, Zak Chowdhury, Arif Hussain, Saniath Chowdhury and Robi Ahmed, is opening in Brightlingsea's High Street, tomorrow (July 30).

The business, which serves up curries, biriyani dishes and chicken wings, was started in Sudbury.

"We know people are desperate for a good curry takeaway and they want great food.

"Going on our previous experience with our restaurant and takeaways in Suffolk, we think we can provide a good food service here too. 

"We are a group of four local friends, who grew up in Essex, so we know what the people want.

"We hope to make everyone in Brightlingsea very happy."

Excited - the Mughul Express team outside their Sudbury branch (Image: Mughal Express) The friends are taking over the old Rose of Bengal restaurant and the team has been renovating the building for the past month.

Mr Chowdhury said: "We have changed the interior and the appearance of the interior and, although it is a takeaway, we believe presentation is important.

"Our food is tasty and our decoration is tasteful.

"We have a lot of new equipment in the kitchen which makes getting orders from us to customers much faster."

The franchise was named Takeaway of the Year 2024 in the Suffolk area at the Bangladesh Caterers Association for their chef's skills in a cook-off event. 

Mughal Knight, a prized chef at the takeaway, was named finalist for the English Curry awards 2025.

In its first week of opening, the takeaway will be offering 25 per cent off collection orders from July 30 to August 7.
