A singer-songwriter with millions of streams has praised Clacton as he spoke about his latest release.
Murkage Dave, from East London, visited the seaside town to shoot parts of the music video for his new single Old, White, Miserable and Rich.
The track, supported by vocals from Cardiff-based artist Kiddus, is the beginning of a new album, in which Murkage Dave is taking a deep dive into outsider pop, away from mainstream music.
During his two-day stay in Clacton, the singer said he encountered a welcoming and open town.
He said: “I had a great time here and I really want to come back. Clacton is a great place, with a fantastic beach.

“I think what is said about Clacton online and in the tabloids isn’t justified.”
The single is his first release since 2023 and takes a provocative and critical aim at Reform UK.
Murkage Dave describes it as “a message for Nigel Farage, the Reform party and their American sugar daddies”.
Speaking about the new song, which is aimed at the town’s MP, he said: “I think Nigel Farage is a great celebrity, but he has bad intentions.
“He hoped to put Clacton on the map, but without the right intentions. He did not grow up like many people here and in other parts of the UK.
“He doesn’t know what it’s like to be poor.”
Speaking about the different experiences of people across the country, he believes in the importance of connections between communities.
He said: “There should be a programme for people in the big cities and those living in smaller towns like Clacton, where they can come out and see what it’s really like to live in that place.

“If you can keep the connection between people strong, that’s when we are strong. We are more similar to each other than we think.”
As part of the music video, Murkage Dave also visited Huthwaite in Ashfield, the constituency of Lee Anderson, who defected to Reform UK in March 2024 and became the party’s first MP.
The new album is in progress, with a release date yet to be announced.
His work can be streamed on all major platforms, and the music video is on YouTube.
