A BBC Young Musician finalist will join Clacton Choral Society for their spring concert as he reveals his “three-generational” connection to the area.

Joshua Gearing is a professional percussionist, composer, organist and pianist, and was only 17 when he was a finalist for the BBC’s Young Musician of the Year 2022.

Joshua has appeared across the UK with many well-known orchestras and at venues such as the Bridgewater Hall Manchester and Buxton Opera House.

Joshua will also be joining the Clacton Choral Society – a choir of about 70 people from the Tendring area - for their spring concert on Saturday April 12 at St James’ Church.

Rutter’s Requiem, work by French composers and other pieces will be performed including Leila Saleh as a soprano, and Duncan Archard on the organ.

Joshua has long family connections with Clacton, holidaying here with his family and mother Pippa, who herself as a musician runs the Jupiter Signers in both Frinton and London.

John Collins, Joshua’s grandfather, was also associated with Jack Watling in the early days of the Frinton Summer Repertory Theatre.

While John’s wife Caryll, a professional singer, is now the musical director of Clacton Choral, and will also be performing.

The event starts at 5pm and tickets are available from www.ticketsource.co.uk/clacton-choral-society or you can buy them on the door.
