A FAMOUS sea shanty singing band is set to kick off Frinton Summer Theatre for the first time ever with a fundraising event.

Frinton Summer Theatre will launch 2025 with an unmissable musical voyage as the legendary Motley Crew singers make their first-ever visit to Frinton Summer Theatre.

This one-night-only fundraising event promises an unforgettable evening of rousing sea shanties and infectious harmonies on March 22, at 7.30pm.

The Motley Crew is set to transform the stage of the McGrigor Hall, in Fourth Avenue, into a lively celebration of the sea.

Jacey Dias, chair of Frinton Summer Theatre Trustees, said: "This exclusive performance is not only a vital fundraising event supporting Frinton Summer Theatre, but it also marks an exciting first.

"Motley Crew is making its Frinton Summer Theatre debut with a night of music, energy, and singalong fun that’s sure to have the audience tapping their feet and joining in.

"For nearly 90 years, Frinton Summer Theatre has brought the magic of live theatre to audiences from near and far.

"As the UK’s longest-running repertory theatre and a registered charity, we rely on the generosity of our supporters to preserve this rich legacy and keep the spirit of live theatre thriving.

"Their support helps ensure that we can continue to inspire, entertain, and bring our community together for generations to come.

"Join us for an unforgettable evening of music and merriment—all in support of a great cause."

Born 25 years ago The Motley Crew of like-minded buccaneers turned a late-night idea into a timeless tradition of joyful singing and maritime merriment.

Audiences will be swept away by traditional and contemporary shanties, performed with the passion and spirit that has made the group a firm favourite among folk and maritime music lovers alike.

To make the night even more special, the audience are encouraged to dig out their finest nautical stripes and maritime wear and enter into the spirit of the sea.

Tickets cost £18 and can be purchased from www.frintonsummertheatre.org.
