Firefighters are issuing a warning to residents over fire alarms after a washing machine fire in Burnham.
Fire crews from Burnham-on-Crouch were called to Cedar Grove in the town at 11.30am today (October 28).
The reports came after residents heard their smoke alarms going off.
On arrival, fire crews reported a washing machine was on fire and the fire was extinguished by 12.07pm.
After the fire, Essex Fire says the incident could have been worse if it weren’t for the fire alarms.
Crew Manager Jon Vincent from Burnham-on-Crouch Fire Station said: “This incident really highlights how important it is to have working smoke alarms at home.
“The residents were alerted to the fire quickly and were able to get out of the house quickly.
“If you or someone you know doesn’t have working smoke alarms at home, did you know we can fit them for free?
