A FAMILY'S music festival dedicated to the memory of their musician son is set to return this month.

CozFest is a Sible Hedingham-based annual music festival organised to celebrate the memory of Corran ‘Coz’ Powell.

Sadly, Corran was just 21 when his car was involved in a head-on collision in Braintree Road, Gosfield, in 2014.

He was airlifted to hospital with life-threatening injuries but died eight days later without regaining consciousness.

Friend and passenger James Simmons also died in the crash.

It was later revealed the other driver, who died at the scene, was drunk and high on a cocktail of drugs.

To honour Corran, who was a dedicated musician, his family launched CozFest more than seven years ago.

Although it had to be axed in 2020 due to the pandemic, CozFest returned last year and is now set to take place from August 27-28.

Preparations for the latest festival are underway with all but one slot filled for stage acts.

Acts confirmed so far include Point Clear, Its Not A Phase Mum, Meanstreak, The Condriacs, They Boys Fire and Coz’s brother Jaz Powell.

Corran’s mum and co-organiser of CozFest Gennie Powell said: “I’m so very grateful to our team for giving up their time on the weekends to help with all of this.

“We are on schedule although we do still have room for a couple of stalls and advertising space in the programme.

“The lovely ladies from Love You Burlesque will be entertaining the audience with their cheeky performances before the bands start playing on both days.

“Velvet Sundyes will be there with their stall along with other handpicked stalls to keep us all occupied between acts and bands.

“There will be a beer tent and bar and a good selection of food.

“Seven and a half years on CozFest almost means more to us as a family than it did in the beginning.

“This year, one of the bands Coz was in have re-grouped specially to play a tribute to him.

“His youngest brother Jubs will be taking over his role as lead singer and we are all very much looking forward to a nostalgic and emotional performance on Saturday night.”
