A HEDGE next to a roadside is causing a danger to drivers by blocking hazard signs, a councillor has warned.
David Harris, the Labour councillor for Berechurch, says he has written several requests to Essex Highways about overgrown greenery blocking road signs on Berechurch Hall Road.
With nothing having been done, Mr Harris is worried there is an accident waiting to happen on the stretch of road.
He said: “[I’m] not impressed by the risk to drivers being ignored here – safety signs [are there for] exactly that, there for safety reasons.
“This is an unacceptable risk on a road like Berechurch Hall Road which has had far too many road traffic accidents.”

When asked by the Gazette for a statement on the matter, a spokesman for Essex Highways said they will take action if it gets worse.
He said: “We received a report about overgrown greenery obstructing signs in Berechurch Hall Road on May 3.
“An Essex Highways Inspector visited the location on May 10 and concluded that, at that time, the greenery did not meet our requirements to raise as a defect.
“A further report was made to us on June 14. We will schedule another inspection at the location to assess whether the situation has deteriorated and take further action, if appropriate.”
