POLICE have arrested a man after he tried to escape when officers discovered thousands of pounds worth of drugs.

The man, 35, was arrested on Monday, January 24 after Essex Police received a call from a member of the public.

The caller was concerned about the driver of a Mercedes acting suspiciously in Tiptree.

Officers located the vehicle and the suspected driver but noticed drugs in the car.

While searching, the man, from Colchester, attempted to flee but was caught.

Officers discovered class B and suspected class A drugs in the car, believed to be worth around £3,000.

The man has been released under investigation while enquiries continue.

A spokesman for Essex Police added: "Officers from the Community Policing Team attended the area and set about searching for the vehicle.

"After a short time they located the Mercedes and the suspected driver.

"Whilst speaking with him officers noticed some drugs in the car so both the male and the car were searched under the misuse of drugs act.

"The male did try to escape from the officers but failed, the resulting search located class B and suspected Class A drugs with a value of around £3000."
