A TOWN council is hoping to revamp its offices and chamber.

Wivenhoe Town Council is proposing to extend and remodel its existing building to create fully accessible council offices and chamber.

The proposals also include improved facilities for council staff, a new first floor office space to be leased to businesses in the area, and thermal upgrading of the existing building fabric and space heating system.

This upgrade would help the town council meet its ambitious environmental targets.

It says any savings made from the efficiency of lowering its carbon footprint and income from new office lets will be equal to or better than loan repayments.

The existing town council office building has had no maintenance or refurbishment works carried out in the past 50 years and performs “very badly” in terms of energy consumption.

The town council’s offices and chamber are also currently not easily accessible to the public.

It argues the revamp will reduce overall energy costs and continue to generate rental income for the benefit of the town.

Residents were invited to leave feedback on the council’s plans.

Wivenhoe Town Council will now consider feedback before the final planning application submission to Colchester Council.
