A POPULAR fireworks extravaganza launched into the skies above Colchester last night, attracting thousands of spectators and families.

The Castle Park Fireworks Display returned to the town centre following the cancellation of last year’s 50th anniversary event.

The sold-out spectacle was organised by fundraising group King Coel’s Kittens which was formed in 1962 to initially raise cash to support people with special needs.

Following an hour of entertainment, including a mind-bending performance from magician Michael J Fitch, The Guy Parade made its way through the park.

Guests of all ages then gazed into a crackling bonfire before marvelling skywards at the exploding rockets of colour which sliced through the darkness.

In a statement published on social media the event’s organisers said: “Thank you to everyone who came to the fireworks - hope you enjoyed the evening.

“All profits from the display go to local good causes.

Clacton and Frinton Gazette:

“Thank you to Michael J Fitch The Magician and all the ‘kittens’ and helpers.

“See you again next year. Remember to book your tickets early as we do sell out.”
