A FOOTBALL match will be played in aid of a charity team set up in memory of a sports fan who was brutally attacked at a match.

The Harwich Angels will take to the pitch and play the Dobbins Robbins on October 17 at the Harwich and Parkeston stadium, in Main Road, Dovercourt.

The opposition team was founded in honour of Simon Dobbin, a devoted Cambridge United supporter who was attacked by hooligans in 2015.

The vicious assault occurred after he attended a match between his beloved club and Southend United and left him permanently brain damaged.

Tragically, Simon, a father and husband, died suddenly last October at his home from complications relating to his condition.

The game, kicking off at 2pm, between the Harwich Angels and the Dobbins Robbins will take place just shy of the first anniversary of his death.

Tickets cost £5 for adults and £2.50 for children with all proceeds being donated to a charity chosen by the Dobbins Robbins.
