Residents and event organisers are being urged to use fireworks considerately ahead of Bonfire Night.

Tendring Council has encouraged everyone using fireworks, be it in their garden or at an event, to be sensitive to their neighbours and wildlife.

Residents are also being advised to warn their neighbours or nearby farmers in advance if they plan on using fireworks.

The council has also encouraged the use of quiet fireworks, especially in areas close to horses, livestock and other animals.

Councillor Lynda McWilliams, who is responsible for partnerships, said the advice applied at any time of year but is particularly relevant now ahead of Bonfire Night.

She said:“We recognise many people enjoy fireworks, and absolutely want people to enjoy themselves and celebrate a moment in our history this Bonfire Night.

“This year may be particularly popular given how few events there were last year due to Covid-19 restrictions.

“However, as well as using fireworks safely we’re asking people to use them considerately.

“Please think about your neighbours, who may have pets or children who don’t like loud noises, and warn them in advance.

“There are also lots of silent and quiet fireworks out there which may be a more appropriate choice, and we would urge you to consider these.”
