A SEASIDE attraction is set to appear on a popular TV show.

Clacton Pier is featuring on BBC’s Antiques Road Trip next week.

Experts Catherine Southon and Serhat Ahmet head for the coast to advise on finding a bargain for the show’s guests.

Filming took place in April and Catherine and Serhat spent more than six hours at the pier with a crew for the episode which is part of the 22nd series.

The pair crashed about on the dodgems, strolled along the decking and munched on candy floss during filming.

The team also enjoyed a lunch of fish and chips.

Clacton Pier director Billy Ball said that he is looking forward to watching the programme.

“The team from Antiques Road Trip were with us for most of the day on a blustery Saturday about five months ago,” he said.

“It will be interesting to see what footage they use but I am sure the Dockside Dodgems will be a significant part of the show.

“We were pleased to be able to host them and the crew were delighted with the result of the filming.”

It was a first visit for Serhat, but it was trip down memory lane for Catherine who was a student at Essex University.

“I remember coming down to the pier but it has changed such a lot since I was here last and there have been huge improvements,” she added.

Serhat, a London-based antiques dealer, is the new boy on the team and this is only his second series.

However, he has plenty of experience with more than 25 years in his family’s business.

The programme follows pairs of experts as they head off across the country trying to find hidden gems that will make them a profit at auction.

Under Covid restrictions the teams were unable to attend the auction and had to find a venue from which to follow it on their iPads – and they chose the pier.

The programme is due to go out on Tuesday at 4.30pm on BBC1.
