SPEEDING drivers are a danger to themselves and other road users, and driving over the speed limit can often lead to crashes.
There are various ways to clamp down on drivers driving above the limit, including fixed cameras, mobile cameras, and police officers themselves.
And a Freedom of Information request has revealed the number of speeding fines issued across Essex since 2015.

Here's a breakdown of the data:
- 2015 - 33,783 fines issued
- 2016 - 38,153 fines issued
- 2017 - 37,968 fines issued
- 2018 - 32,434 fines issued
- 2019 - 27,134 fines issued
- 2020 - 14,085 fines issued between January and September
And here's a breakdown of how many fines were issued to men and women:
- 2015 - female - 9334, male - 24447
- 2016 - female - 10497, male - 27655
- 2017 - female - 10086, male - 27879
- 2018 - female - 9465, male - 22966
- 2019 - female - 7679, male - 19453
- 2020 - female - 4069, male - 10014
