GREEN-FINGERED school students have been helping take care of the environment and the future of the planet by planting trees.
Staff from Tendring Council’s Open Spaces team were recently joined by roughly 20 students from Cann Hall Primary School, in Constable Avenue, Clacton.
The young and old gardeners joined forces to plant 11 new trees on a plot of land close to Dorking Crescent as part of the authority’s drive to more eco-friendly.
The blossoming fruits trees, which will grow edible apples and pears for both people and wildlife, are expected to take a few years to reach maturity.
Michael Talbot, Tendring Council cabinet member for environment, said the team looked forward to welcoming the students back when further planting can take place.
“It was great to see the students getting involved in planting these trees, as the younger generation will hopefully benefit from them for years to come,” he said.
“Having planted these, it’s now all of our responsibility to cherish and protect these trees which should stand tall and enhance the area for decades to come.”
