A UNIVERSITY project team is now supplying businesses with Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) after their face shield designs were officially certified.
Back in April, mechanical engineers at the University of Sussex developed a way to produce high-quality face shields using laser cutters.
Now the face shields have passed certification tests which means the design can be sold for healthcare workers, emergency first responders and staff in shops and other businesses to use.
The face shields are available through the university’s not-for-profit initiative, ClickShieldUS.
Project leader Harri Koivisto, teaching fellow in Mechanical Engineering, said: “It has been an incredibly tough project to run so far, and under such strange circumstances too. That said, the experience has been incredibly positive and it has been a pleasure working alongside my colleagues at Sussex to make this happen.
“It has been a real team effort with so many of our staff and students generously volunteering their time to this project.”
