From historic dockyards to airstrips and castles, there is an abundance of film locations within Hampshire. 

We've seen our fair share of Hollywood A-listers in Hampshire, here are some of the biggest blockbusters: 

1.Les Miserables, 2012

Hampshire Chronicle:

Portsmouth Dockyard.

In 19th-century France, Jean Valjean, who for decades has been hunted by the ruthless policeman Javert after breaking parole, agrees to care for a factory worker's daughter. The decision changes their lives forever.

Director: Tom Hooper

Starring: Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe, Anne Hathaway

Hampshire location: Portsmouth Dockyard

In the very opening scene, when Valjean is seen pulling a ship into dock along with other convicts, this was actually filmed in Hampshire, in the No.9 Dock at Portsmouth Historic Dockyard.

2.Tomorrow Never Dies, 1997

HMS Winchester

Director: Roger Spottiswoode

Starring:  Pierce Brosnan, Jonathan Pryce, Michelle Yeoh

Hampshire location: Portsmouth

Pierce Brosnan shot scenes in Portsmouth whilst trying to prevent war between the UK and China; featuring HMS Dryad and HMS Westminster.

3. Diamonds are Forever, 1971

A diamond smuggling investigation leads James Bond to Las Vegas, where he uncovers an evil plot involving a rich business tycoon.

Director: Guy Hamilton

Starring: Sean Connery, Jill St. John, Charles Gray 

Hampshire location: Southampton Docks

The finale of Diamonds are Forever was filmed in Southampton Docks with a murder attempt onboard the ship the Canberra. 

4. Get Real, 1998

Hampshire Chronicle:

Cranborne School

A tenderly romantic coming-of-age story as two boys in a British school fall in love.

Director:  Simon Shore

Starring:  Ben Silverstone, Brad Gorton, Charlotte Brittain

Hampshire location: Basingstoke 

The entire film took six weeks to shoot and was filmed in and around Basingstoke. Key locations included: Cranbourne School, Down Grange Sports Track and Millstone Public House. 

5. Transformers: The Last Knight, 2017

A deadly threat from Earth's history reappears and a hunt for a lost artifact takes place between Autobots and Decepticons, while Optimus Prime encounters his creator in space.

Director: Michael Bay

Starring: Mark Wahlberg, Anthony Hopkins, Josh Duhamel 

Hampshire location: Gosport

The Cold War submarine, HMS Alliance from Gosport was featured as a key location in the final instalment of the Transformers saga.

6. Inception, 2010

A thief who steals corporate secrets through the use of dream-sharing technology is given the inverse task of planting an idea into the mind of a C.E.O.

Director: Christopher Nolan

Starring:  Leonardo DiCaprio, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Ellen Page

Hampshire location: Farnborough

Scenes from Inception were filmed at the Farnborough Airfield, along with other Hollywood hits such as Quantum of Solace and Red Dwarf. 

7. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom 

When the island's dormant volcano begins roaring to life, Owen and Claire mount a campaign to rescue the remaining dinosaurs from this extinction-level event.

Starring:  Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Rafe Spall

Hampshire location: Pyestock

Opening scenes for the adventure film were shot at Pyestock. It was filmed through the night and involved helicopters, rain machines, and lightning simulators to mimic a thunderstorm.jurasjus

8. Avengers: Age of Ultron, 2015

When Tony Stark and Bruce Banner try to jump-start a dormant peacekeeping program called Ultron, things go horribly wrong and it's up to Earth's mightiest heroes to stop the villainous Ultron from enacting his terrible plan.

Starring: Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo

Hampshire location: Hawley

Captain America and The Avengers team visited Hawley Woods in 2014 to shoot scenes for the Marvel Cinematic Universe film.

9.  The Da Vinci Code, 2006

Hampshire Chronicle:

A murder inside the Louvre, and clues in Da Vinci paintings, lead to the discovery of a religious mystery protected by a secret society for two thousand years, which could shake the foundations of Christianity.

Director:  Ron Howard

Starring: Tom Hanks, Audrey Tautou, Jean Reno 

Hampshire location: Winchester Cathedral

In the film the Knights’ meeting with the Pope in the ‘Vatican’ was actually filmed in Winchester Cathedral, which made £20,000 from opening their doors to the film crew. 

10. X-Men: First Class, 2011

In the 1960s, superpowered humans Charles Xavier and Erik Lensherr work together to find others like them, but Erik's vengeful pursuit of an ambitious mutant who ruined his life causes a schism to divide them.

Starring: James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence 

Hampshire location: Farnborough 

The wind tunnel at the Farnborough Business Park was one of the locations for this X-Men hit that was mostly filmed at Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire. 

The wind tunnel was used as a laboratory and workshop for the mutant Beast in the film.
