ARMED police descended on a residential road in Poole in connection with a Somerset attempted murder investigation.

Residents reported seeing officers point their guns at a man outside a red car in the Jefferson Avenue area on Tuesday evening.

Three people were arrested by Dorset Police before being transferred back to Avon and Somerset Police.

Police said the response in Poole was in connection with an investigation that had been launched after an incident in Glastonbury earlier that day.

A statement from Avon and Somerset Police said: "A male pedestrian was involved in a collision with a car at approximately 12.10pm in Pound Close. He was taken to hospital and remains in a critical, but stable, condition.

"A vehicle was stopped in Poole by Dorset Police at about 6.50pm in connection with our enquiries.

"Two males and one female were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. They will be transferred back to Avon and Somerset while our enquiries continue.
