A THUG who attacked his girlfriend's dad with pickaxe handles and knocked a 15-year-old girl unconscious two days later and a man who stabbed his victim before allowing his dog to savagely attack him are among St Helens criminals who were sentenced in March.

Michael Greenall, of Kitchener Street, St Helens attacked his girlfriend's dad with pickaxe handles in his own home. Two days later, while on police bail he then knocked a 15-year-old girl unconscious.

Greenall, 26, was jailed for a total of 11 years and 10 months for the two separate assaults at Liverpool Crown Court.

Judge Gary Woodhall said: "These offences are so serious that only a custodial sentence can be justified.

"I have no hesitation in concluding that you pose a significant risk of causing serious harm."

  • Aaron Hickey

Aaron Hickey repeatedly punched and kicked a “nice guy” former colleague he had pushed to the ground after being refused entry while he was highly drunk and off duty.

The violent attack took place after Aaron Hickey tried to get back into Bar 44 on Westfield Street in St Helens town centre where he had worked until a few days earlier.

Hickey, 25, of Mersey Street, Parr was jailed for 12 months.

Judge Thomas Teague, QC said to Hickey: “You clearly had have a problem with controlling your temper.”

  • Mark Foster

A postman who stole people's post containing more than £7,000 of electrical items to fund a gambling addiction was given a suspended sentence.

Mark Anthony Foster, of Park Street, Haydock stole 17 postal packets over a nine-month period between November 2018 and August 2019.

During his spree, Foster, 39, stole electrical items, mostly mobile phones, to the value of £7,038.36 before selling the stolen goods on eBay.

Sparing Foster an immediate jail sentence, Judge Stuart Driver QC accepted Foster, who had no relevant previous convictions and worked for the Royal Mail for 17 years, had acted "out of character" to fund his addiction.

He gave Foster two concurrent 12-month sentences, suspended for 12 months.

Dean Weaver stabbed his victim and then allowed his Staffordshire Bull Terrier to launch a savage attack on him.

Weaver launched the "brutal, horrifying attack" on his victim, a 30-year-old man who had been on a night out with friends in St Helens town centre.

The attack happened at around 5.15am on September 15, 2019 after the victim went to a house party at the home of Weaver, 28, on Fidler Street, Toll Bar.

He was jailed for eight years.
