SOUTHEND United will operate on a 'skeleton staff' until further notice due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Staff have also been told to work from home.

A statement on the club's website said: "Southend United Football Club can confirm it has taken the decision to operate a skeleton staff from Thursday 19 March until further notice to protect staff and family following the recent developments of the Coronavirus outbreak.

"The revised operational measures come following the developing Government guidance.

"From tomorrow, staff will complete their work remotely from home as best as possible. The club will be limiting access to Roots Hall and the training ground to essential personnel only.

"Sol Campbell’s squad have been advised not to report to the training ground this week and this will again be reviewed on a weekly basis.

"Players have been given training plans to follow and sports science staff will remain in regular contact with players.

The decision has been made with the health, well-being and safety of everyone at the forefront and we hope our supporters follow Government advice and look after their own well-being and that of their family."
