SOUTHEND United manager Sol Campbell has told his young players to forget all about beating Bristol Rovers.

The Shrimpers beat the Pirates 3-1 last time out at Roots Hall.

But Campbell knows that will count for nothing when Blues head to high-flying Rotherham United this weekend.

“You’ve got to start all over again,” said Campbell.

“The work rate has to be top notch.

“You have to listen and respect the game because you haven’t done anything yet.

“You’re just starting out so you have to focus and knuckle down.

“You’ve got to be consistent and that’s the key for young players.”

However, Rotherham will provide a stern test for the Shrimpers tomorrow.

The Millers are currently second in the League One standings and Campbell is expecting another difficult afternoon.

“Rotherham will be a different scenario,” said Campbell.

“They’re very direct and physical. We will have to take that on but they’re riding high and it’s a tough game.

“They’re powerful and quick and we will have to match their effort and know how to hurt them when we’ve got the ball.

“We’ve got to try and stay in the game too.”

The Shrimpers remain second from bottom in the standings, 16 points from safety, and are again likely to be without both Mark Milligan and Timothee Dieng this weekend.

Dieng is still struggling with a hamstring problem while Milligan suffered a fractured cheekbone during the 2-1 defeat at Oxford United and is likely to be wearing a protective face mask when he does return to action.

“Tim is probably still another week to 10 days away from being back,” confirmed Campbell.

“Milligan is out there but he will need a mask.

“We’ve got to consider if it’s worth it for the weekend or the following week. He wants to play but we have to think about all scenarios.”

Blues will again be without goalkeeper Mark Oxley (thigh), left-back Nathan Ralph (dislocated shoulder), striker Stephen Humphrys (broken nose) and defender Harry Lennon (broken leg).
