THE vast majority of Southend United's players and staff are still waiting to receive their February pay packets.

The wages were due to be paid on Friday February 28.

But Blues boss Sol Campbell has confirmed that many salaries are still to be paid.

"Some of the under 23s have been paid but the senior staff playing wise and the under 23 staff haven’t been paid," said Campbell, who is also believed to still be waiting for his wages.

"I have to work out how to get the best out of this scenario.

"It’s a delicate situation."

The second from bottom Shrimpers sit 15 points from safety towards the foot of the League One table.

But Campbell is not fully aware of the club's concerning financial situation.

"For me, I don’t know what’s happening in the background," said the 45-year-old.

"From the beginning I didn’t know what was happening in the background so why should I know now.

"Why would it change?

"I’m just getting on with preparing the team.

"The rest is out of my control."

Blues head to promotion chasing Rotherham United this weekend.

And Campbell is keen to get the best out of his players.

"I have to deal with the players and motivate them," said the former England international.

"I have to get them ready for the game but it’s difficult because there are emotions.

"I’m doing my best to juggle things and getting the best out of them within this scenario and environment."

But Campbell also hinted he was not being kept up to date with the situation.

"I don’t think anyone knows what’s happening," said Campbell.

"I’m sure he will come out and explain what’s going on.

"But sometimes you see what’s going on through reading the papers."
