THREE brothers have raised money to thank a hospital which cared for their baby sibling.

Sean Farrar, 12, and his brothers Luke, seven, and Ethan, three, decided with the help of their mum Danielle to auction off various items including scan vouchers and a breast pump, which raised £85.

Proud of the boys' selfless act Danielle, who has worked for Your Baby Scan in Widnes for five years, explained: "My son Cody, who is now seven months old, was in the special care unit for five weeks.

"There was nothing for the other boys to do in the summer holidays so they decided to help set up the sibling room."

The room, which was opened on Thursday, February 13, at Whiston Hospital is equipped with toys, books, DVDs and a games console and is aimed at helping families stay together.

Cousins Mason Hill, seven, and Ellie Turner, 10, from Haydock in St Helens also raised £1,285.75 after Mason's little brother Oaklan was born at 34 weeks and then contracted sepsis and jaundice, spending most of his time in the Special Care Baby Unit.

The ward staff then added the money from the Farrar family to make the special room so that siblings of children in the wards can come and spend their time while their younger siblings are being treated.

Lynne Banks and Denise Leach, leads for developmental care ward sisters, added: "We have wanted to do a sibling room for ages so it is amazing to see them here today, as the babies in here are often so poorly, so to see them happy and enjoying this room what the money they have raised has gone towards is amazing.

"We've put a plaque up with everyone's names on and we will be adding to this area too with soft play items very soon."
