HIGH school pupils have been sent home for the day due to a power cut.
Properties across the WA5 postcode area were affected by outages this morning, Monday.
Issues were first reported to SP Energy Networks shortly after 10am, with power having been restored before midday.
Great Sankey High School was among the buildings left without power, with pupils having been sent home due to the issue.
In a statement posted on Twitter, the school said: “Due to a high voltage power failure in the area, the school is without power, heating and catering facilities.
“Students are texting home to gain permission to leave school – students can leave once parental permission is granted.
“School should be open as usual tomorrow.”
Great Sankey Neighbourhood Hub was also evacuated as a result, but has now reopened.
SP Energy Networks reported that the power cut was caused by a fault involving underground cables - with streets across the Great Sankey, Old Hall and Bold Heath areas affected.
