Having experienced an inspiring summer at a teaching event in America, a Basildon primary school teacher aims to put her new methods into practice.

Lee Chapel Primary School teacher Hayley McKechnie attended an exclusive teaching and learning week in Utah by Discovery Education Summer Institute (DENSI).

The Weber State University in Ogden hosted the various workshops and interactive learning seminars bringing together teachers from across the globe.

Discovery Education works to promote new technology to enhance pupils’ learning and achievement levels in schools across 90 different countries.

The company currently connects 5 million teachers and is an offshoot of the global American media company Discovery.

Following the conference, Mrs McKechnie spoke of her delight at what she had learnt.

“I was delighted to be chosen as one of only four UK teachers to attend the Discovery Education Summer Institute in Utah. What an absolute privilege,” she said.

“I had the opportunity to meet teachers from all over the world and have learned so much about new technologies which can bring learning to life. I cannot wait to share these with my pupils and colleagues at Lee Chapel in September.”

Discovery Education’s Senior Director Andrew Hammond explained the impact of embracing his company’s new technology.

“We were thrilled to give Hayley the opportunity to attend the Discovery Education Summer Institute,” he said.

“This year’s event was a true celebration of education technology - a coming together of education enthusiasts all striving to re-imagine the future of learning,” said Mr Hammond.

“I’m sure that Hayley’s experience will benefit her pupils and the whole school community.”
