A MAN was found unconscious after being assaulted outside a popular bar.

Police received a call at about 1.15am yesterday saying a man in his 30s was knocked out on the floor after being assaulted by another man.

The incident happened outside Reids in Laindon Road, Billericay, a popular bar and restaurant which gets busy with partygoers on Friday and Saturday nights.

A police spokesman said two people have been arrested following the incident.

He said: “The suspect left the scene prior to being arrested at 5.50am and the 26-year-old from Basildon remains in custody on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm.

“The victim was taken to in hospital in a serious condition.”

A woman was also arrested at the scene too.

The police spokesman added: “Our officers also arrested a 22-year-old woman from Laindon at the scene on suspicion of affray and she remains in custody.”

Police issued an appeal for information on social media and others were shocked to hear of the attack, leaving messages such as “how awful, I hope he recovers”.

The appeal was shared across different community groups in the hope of piecing together what happened.

Tony Davies, 42, of Chapel Street, Billericay, expressed his concern about the ongoing issues in the town at night.

He said: “These types of incidents are happening far too often nowadays.

“It’s a real concern for the community.

“This is a nice area and good place to live, but police need to get a grip on what happens in the town’s bars and clubs of a weekend.”

There has been no update on the victim’s condition and the extent of his injuries are currently unknown.

Police are appealing to the wider public for more information and anyone who was in the area at the time or leading up to the incident is encouraged to get in touch as soon as possible.
