Jeeves and Wooster in Perfect Nonsense, McGrigor Hall, Frinton. Until Saturday. 01255 676656.

The clue’s in the title really. If you’re looking for a deep and meaningful drama or cutting-edge witty take on the current political climate, this probably isn’t for you.

Which is a good thing because a little bit of perfect nonsense is what we all need at the moment.

In the hands of Colchester director Patrick Marlowe, and of course the brilliance of PG Wodehouse, and let’s not forget the Goodale brothers who wrote this new version - that’s exactly what we get.

This means outrageous and ridiculously convoluted plotlines, hilarious scene changes, and those comic moments that make theatre such escapist fun.

Things like the reversing beep of a mobility scooter, a randy toy dog, or an actor incredibly playing two different characters having a conversation with each other.

All of this The marvellous mayhem has to be delivered with delicious pin-point precision, and the Frinton cast do exactly that.

Bert Seymour is a glorious Bertie Wooster, loveable, silly and beautifully bumbling, while Fred Gray plays Jeeves with suitable minimalist superiority, saving the madcap for his other characters.

Making-up the trio is Phil Yarrow’s Seppings, whose Aunt Dahlia is one of the hits of the night. A show definitely not to be missed.
