CLACTON PIER has announced it will be closing outdoor rides today due to the weather.

The team has blamed “windy and unseasonal weather” and has said rides will be closed until 6pm for safety reasons.

A spokesman said: “Weather permitting, they will be operating again then.

“However, why not come and enjoy our all-weather attractions such as adventure golf, soft play, Dockside Dodgems, Seaquarium, bowling, arcade, Boardwalk Bar and Grill and more.”

Clacton Carnival has said they are still going ahead with the procession this evening.

A spokesman said: “Like everyone, Clacton Carnival are following the wind projections.

“We are keeping our fingers crossed that the projected wind will drop enough by 6pm for a safe procession.

“We are fully aware lots of organisations are busily preparing their floats and everyone are getting their coins ready to put in the buckets.

“So at this time, it’s still all systems go.”

The Mersea Island Lions Club has cancelled its summer show due to the weather.

In a post on Facebook it said: "It's not safe to have 50mph winds with gazebos and inflatables. Apologies from the Lions."
