Do these vintage images of banger racing in north Essex bring back any memories ?
It is likely they were taken in the late 1960s or very early 1970s and form part of the vast collection belonging to Brightlingsea photographer Alf Jefferies, who died more than 20 years ago.
His daughter Lynn Ballard, who has spent the past few years cataloguing the thousands of images, says the races took place at Thorrington Quarry, which was down a track by the crossing gates.
She is currently displaying Alf’s pictures, for the next ten weeks, at the old National & Provincial Bank on Brightlingsea High Street and will host an exhibition at the end of next month.
