Three people have been taken to hospital following a three vehicle crash on the A133.

Essex fire and ambulance services arrived at the Colchester-bound carriageway, one mile before the Weeley roundabout at around 7.30am today.

A spokesman for Essex Fire Service said: "Firefighters were called to assist at the scene of a road traffic collision involving three vehicles.

"Fire crews worked with paramedics to help release two casualties trapped in their vehicles.

"The casualties were released by 9:30am and left in the care of the ambulance service."

A spokesman for Essex Ambulance Service said: "We were called today shortly before 7.45am with reports of a collision on Colchester Road, Great Bentley.

"We sent an ambulance officer and four ambulance crews to the scene.

"Three patients were treated at the scene before being transported to Colchester Hospital for further treatment.”

Traffic was delayed for about three hours after the incident.
