WITH the West Cliff celebrating 125 years of Summer Variety this year, August is packed full of big names and great shows for all tastes.

Heading the line-up is the The Summer Show starring Don Maclean. The summer variety show is the longest running continuous show in the country and this year the creative team are pulling out all the stops to celebrate the 125 anniversary. Joining Don on stage are local magician Danny Le Grew, the Summer Show dancers and vocalists Kilke John and James Waud.

Theatre manager Rob Mitchell-Gears said: “We are thrilled to have Don Maclean returning for this anniversary show. He went down a storm earlier in the year so it just seemed the perfect fit to have him back to headline the summer show. It really is going to be a fantastic.

“We’ve been planning this for months and have a great mix of songs, dance, magic and comedy. The show feels fresh and new whilst still being nostalgic, it’s a difficult balance but we are confident that audiences will love it.”

Performances are on Tuesdays (2pm and 7.30pm) and Wednesdays (2pm and 6pm) in August with two final performance on Saturday 24 at 2pm and 7.30pm.

Joining the summer show in August are a few familiar faces along with some great one off shows.

Jim Davidson returns for another outrageous performance on Saturday, August 17, with Lee Mead on stage on Sunday, August 18. Lee will be performing songs from many of the shows he’s performed in over the past 11 years since he shot to fame on BBC1.

Marshall King also returns as Elvis on Friday, August 23, or if you fancy some close harmony work then there is always ‘Big Girls Don’t Cry’, the Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons show on August 9.

At the end of August the West Cliff welcomes the ‘Rock ‘n’ Roll Paradise show which celebrates ten years. But if none of that tickles your taste buds then perhaps you need to join the Folly Mixtures for a night of Burlesque and Variety on August 30.

“There really is something for everyone this August,” added Mr Mitchell-Gears. For more details go to westcliffclacton.co.uk or call the box office on 01255 433344.
