Long-awaited plans for Dovercourt town centre have finally been revealed.

After delays with the proposed project to renovate parts of the town, including the former Starlings site, a masterplan has been released.

Some really exciting visions for the town are included, with possible plans to pedestrianise one half of Kingsway, create a new car park and an overspill as well as public open spaces and improvements to the street scene.

A makeover is just what the town needs.

It is great to see some work done to investigate how to improve the look of the area as well as looking at shops, tourism and how spaces work for residents.

Some of the plans seem a bit pie in the sky, particularly when it comes to ideas for land not in council ownership.

And there could well be concerns and arguments about how some of the projects will solve important issues in the town.

There will inevitably be concern the ideas will never come to fruition.

But if even if only a handful of the projects do, it will be great to see investment in the town centre.

It’s now up to Tendring Council.
