A MURDER investigation has been launched after a woman was found dead in a Clacton home.

Officers and forensic investigators have been on the scene at an address in Wellesley Road, Clacton, since 3.10pm yesterday.

The victim is a woman aged in her 40s.

Essex Police were initially treating the death as unexplained, but launched a murder investigation this afternoon.

A spokesman said: "We attended an address in Wellesley Road at around 3.10pm on Monday 15 July following concerns for a woman in her 40s inside.

"When we got inside the property, sadly, we found the woman dead.

"Following further enquiries, detectives believe her death is suspicious and a murder investigation has started.

"A 52-year-old man from Clacton has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is currently in custody.

"We are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident."

Officers are appealing for anyone who lives or works in the road with CCTV to contact the Major Investigation Team on 101, quoting incident 717 of July 15.
